Artemis
formerly "Where Paths Meet"
Artemis is a large-scale interactive sculpture by London-based contemporary artist Linda Hortobagyi, originally created as Where Paths Meet for the Pride in the Quarter Lion Trail in St James's Park, opposite Buckingham Palace. During her public display she was visited by hundreds — likely thousands — of children, and featured in BBC News coverage. Made to be met rather than merely viewed, her fluid, inviting form draws children and adults alike into a moment of curiosity, pause and calm.
Named for the Greek goddess of protection, Artemis is the protector of children and animals — and this sculpture carries that meaning into form. A lioness rather than a lion, she embodies protection without aggression: strength placed in the service of care, gaze of a warm mother's hug. Emerging from meditative, intuitive movement, her presence celebrates compassion, strength and connection, offering a quiet point of steadiness for anyone who comes to stand beside her.
Artemis is now seeking her final home: a hospital where she can bring comfort, hope and a little joy to those who need it most. Her scale and tactile, interactive nature make her a natural companion for family waiting areas, paediatric wards and outpatient spaces — somewhere a child might pause, reach out, and feel a little less alone.
